The History of Kappa Delta
Over 100 years ago, four young women decided to create a sisterhood between themselves. In 1897 women were not given many priveleges at all, so the task at hand was a difficult one for them to accomplish. The four women: Lenora Ashmore Blackiston, Mary Sommerville Sparks Hendrick, Sara Turner White, and Julia Gardiner Tyler Wilson were Kappa Delta's early leaders who had a vision. The four women were all unique and different from one another, but three knew each other through living in the dormatories and the other was a friend among them. Along with Kappa Delta, they were also involved in other campus groups and community organizations, but they always believed that Kappa Delta would prosper and grow. Never did they know that Kappa Delta would one day consist of over 200 chapters across the United States. Some notable Kappa Delta's include: Ali Landry, Suzy Spafford, Joan Lowery Nixon, Claudia Kennedy, and Sara James.

KD at the University of Florida
UF is the Beta Pi chapter of Kappa Delta. We are also a Merit Chapter which means that we are in the top 10 percent of all Kappa Delta chapters across the United States. We achieved Merit Chapter by focusing on certain aspects which include: membership recruitment (having all the girls who pledge stay interested and extend their membership for all 4 years), leadership (in the Gainesville community), social success, scholastic achievement (maintaining high GPA standards), and philanthropic involvement. By maintaining our high expectations, we have excelled significantly at the University of Florida.

This is a picture of me and my sorority sisters during our philanthropic event Ghouls, Goblins, and Greeks. GG&G is held during Halloween and kids from the community come to each sorority house and trick-or-treat in a safe environment.
